Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930), British author. Watson and Holmes, in "The Crooked Man," The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1892).

This is as close as Holmes comes to saying "Elementary, my dear Watson." In "A Case of Identity," Holmes says, "All this is amusing, though rather elementary, but I must go back to business, Watson."
