In 1981, Craft, an attractive news anchorwoman at KNBC-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, had been demoted for being, in her bosses' opinion, "too old, too ugly, not deferential to men." She had sued for sex discrimination but ultimately lost her case, which was highly publicized.
