A former anti-Communist student activist in Czechoslovakia, she was pondering the 1992-1993 "ethnic cleansing" movement in the fractured country once called Yugoslavia. One day earlier, Dudinska had been awarded a Master's degree in International Relations from Columbia University (New York City).
