In his Memoirs, Nixon commented: "Very few speeches actually influence the course of history. The November 3 speech was one of them." On the subject of Vietnam, he later wrote: "No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now."("No More Vietnams" in New York Times (March 28, 1985)).
