Unchecked, the tourist will climb over the fence and come right into your house to take pictures of you in your habitat. Cities mi...ndful of tourists have built elaborate "tourist traps" which, luckily, work. Tourists are kept confined to these, and few escape. There is, of course, the type known as the "intrepid tourist." This one has to be watched carefully or he can become most annoying. Little wonder these are so often the target of terrorists. If there is an aspect of benign terror about the tourist, there is also a great deal of tourist in the terrorist. Terrorists travel with only one thing in mind, just like the tourist, and the specifics of places escape them both. Terrorists travel for the purpose of shooting unsuspecting foreigners, just as tourists travel for the purpose of shooting them with a camera.LESSATTRIBUTION DETAIL »

Both terrorist groups and cults tend to become countercultures with their own codes of behavior into which each new recruit is ind...octrinated. The activities of both tend to be on or beyond the fringes of socially acceptable behavior. It has long been established in the study of cults that any deviant group will attract individuals who have a grievance or feeling of deprivation, provided the group offers some explanation or remedy. We have seen that the same is true of terrorist groups. Populations with similar or shared grievances or feelings of deprivation constitute a pool of possible converts. In the case of cults, it was further found that social networks--similar ethnic, social, educational, or other relationships existing before the recruitment takes place--are highly influential in determining who among the many in the pool are most likely to be among the few who are recruited. Despite the greater heterogeneity of personality types among terrorists in general, there appears to be a remarkable homogeneity in terms of social networks within specific groups.LESSATTRIBUTION DETAIL »
Terrorists often claim to be fighting wars, and to be doing no more than is necessary in war. This is nonsense. War is certainly t...he natural expression of collective resentment; but it occurs between organised groups and is fought openly, against a collective enemy. It is possible to fight a war with undiminished respect for the rights of the enemy individual. Indeed, that is the duty of every soldier. But the terrorist must disregard this duty and disobey the law of war. His feelings towards the individual are abolished by his loathing of the group, and it is this--rather than his cowardice, cruelty, or intemporate hate--that constitutes his true moral corruption.LESSATTRIBUTION DETAIL »

Could it not be that just at the moment masculinity has brought us to the brink of nuclear destruction or ecological suicide, wome...n are beginning to rise in response to the Mother's call to save her planet and create instead the next stage of evolution? Can our revolution mean anything else than the reversion of social and economic control to Her representatives among Womankind, and the resumption of Her worship on the face of the Earth? Do we dare demand less?LESSATTRIBUTION DETAIL »
This world is run by people who know how to do things. They know how things work. They are equipped. Up there, there's a layer of ...people who run everything. But we--we're just peasants. We don't understand what's going on, and we can't do anything.LESSATTRIBUTION DETAIL »
