One of ten children born to an ex-slave and his wife, Delany had graduated from Columbia University's dental school in 1923 and become only the second African American woman dentist licensed to practice in New York State. Dan Quayle was Vice-President of the United States under President George Bush and considered by many to possess only mediocre intelligence.
